Celebrate The Journey

Direct flights are available right into Key West, but making the drive by yourself is an unforgettable adventure we highly recommend. You can even fly into Miami, rent a convertible and drive the entire length of the Keys for one of America's great scenic road trips. Non-stop, the drive lasts about four hours, so get an early start, fill up the tank and enjoy the drive. Don't be surprised when you're surrounded by 360-degree water views and get the urge to make a few stops. Hey. You're on your own schedule and no one else's. Stop and soak up the soothing, turquoise water views. Just count down the mile markers starting at 127 in Florida City onto the Overseas Highway and until you reach mile marker zero in Key West.

Count To 42 Then Dive

Count 'em and enjoy each of the 42 bridges that introduce you to the scattering of islands along the way.  Seven Mile Bridge is the most famous and the most enjoyable since it connects you to lower keys. You're in charge of your adventures, so stop when the opportunities invite you. Visit the Coral Reef Foundation dedicated to restoring coral reefs in Key Largo. Experience the second largest and North America's only living coral reef about five miles offshore. Glass bottom boats, ecotours, scuba diving and snorkeling trips are available around John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the adjoining Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Or, just make it a non-stop journey with Key West as your reward.

Meeting The Locals Is Key

For a one-of-a-kind experience, seek out Key deer. They're only found in the Lower Keys and no place else in the entire world.  No bigger than a dog, they're shy, skittish creatures best enjoyed in their keys habitat. Stop in at the National Key Deer Refuge to learn more about this tiny endangered species of whitetail deer and the 40 species of reptiles and 250 species of birds that live there.

Key West Is A Selfie City

Count the smiles as you keep track of your Key West adventures with lots of selfies and videos. Put your car keys away in a safe place and enjoy our very walkable and bike-friendly city. The southernmost point in the continental USA is marked by a buoy of the spot where you're only 90 miles from Cuba. Stroll through Old Town and into the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum where the author lived and wrote some of his most important works. Enjoy the 30-minute tour of the home and garden and delight in meeting some of the 40 or so six-toed cats Hemingway loved. Another 15-minute walk gets you to the Truman Little White House. You'll also find the Key West Aquarium and the Key West ShipwreckTresure Museum in this neighborhood. When it's close to sunset, be sure to make your way to Mallory Square for some of America's most spectacular sunsets and the nightly parade of street entertainers.
